National Service Framework for long term conditions (NSFLTC) projects

Two projects were commissioned by the UK Department of Health to provide evidence to underpin the NSF LTC, one on service users’ experiences of health and social care services and one that focused on their carers’ experiences. This NSF covers people of working age only (18-65). The NSF LTC covers potentially a vast array of conditions but the (first) user study focused on exploration of following conditions: epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Parkinson’s disease, brain injury, spinal cord injury, polio and cerebral palsy (the ‘target groups’). The second study took the same approach, but focused on the carers of these groups of people.

Both studies focused on literature that contained evidence on ‘experience of health and social care services’ within the target groups. The primary purpose of the studies was to gather and review evidence on user and carer experiences of health and social care services to form the evidence base of the new NSF LTC.
