My intention is to examine the nature of decision making in social work and how it can be informed by generic theoretical models of decision making. I propose that a model or framework for decision making should evolve from this enquiry, and that it can be established as an activity that can be examined and developed as an entity in itself rather than an action that arises from other core activities. The research will involve an application of the developed model(s) in a range of practice settings in order to create an informed and cogent view of the complexity and nature of decision making in social work.
